12 January

Pyotr Serkov, First Deputy Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, met with a delegation of the Japanese Bar Association.

During the conversation, Justice Serkov answered a number of questions regarding the structure and activities of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation.

 

27 February – 4 March

A delegation of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, headed by Chief Justice Vyacheslav Lebedev, made an official visit to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

During the visit, the delegation members held meetings with the President of the Supreme People’s Court of Vietnam, Mr. Truong Hoa Bing, with the Minister of Justice, Mr. Le Thanh Long, with a deputy Prosecutor General and judges of Hanoi People’s Court.

 

2 – 5 March

In order to ensure a broad discussion and thorough realisation of novelties in the procedural legislation of Kazakhstan, the Supreme Court of Kazakhstan, together with the country’s Constitutional Court and the Office of the Prosecutor General, held an international conference titled “Modernisation of Procedural Law – a Guarantee of Effective Justice and Enforcement Activities”.

The Supreme Court of Russia was represented at the conference by Justice Konstantin Skryabin, head of a panel of judges of the Judicial Chamber for Criminal Cases. Justice Skryabin made a report on the application of certain forms of judicial proceedings in criminal cases by Russian courts.

 

13 – 18 March

On invitation of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, a delegation of the Military Court of Kyrgyz Republic, headed by the court’s President, Nurlanbek Ashymbekov, made an official visit to Moscow.

The program of the visit included meetings with the senior judges and officials of the Supreme Court of Russia, the Judicial Department at the Supreme Court, the Office of the Chief Military Prosecutor, Moscow Circuit Military Court.

The delegation members also visited the Russian State University of Justice and the Military University of the Defence Ministry of the Russian Federation, where they learned about the education for future specialists of the Russian justice system.

 

22 March

Within the framework of preparation for the annual Russian-German Dialog of Judges, Chief Justice Vyacheslav Lebedev met with Rudolf Mellinghof, President of the German Federal Fiscal Court.

 

30 March – 1 April

A delegation of Russian judges, headed by Chief Justice Lebedev, went to France (Paris and Strasbourg) on an official visit.

At the French Court of Cassation the delegation was received by its First President, Mr. Bertran Louvel, and learned about the use of IT in French courts. During their stay in Paris, the Russian judges met with Jean-Marc Sauvé, Deputy President of the French Council of State.

The delegation members also met with Guido Raimondi, President of the European Court of Human Rights, and with senior officials of the Council of Europe, including the Secretary General Thorbjørn Jagland and Philippe Boillat, Director General of CoE’s Directorate General for Human Rights and Rule of Law.

 

29 April

First Deputy Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, Mr. Pyotr Serkov, met with Mr. Jean-Paul Laborde, Executive Director of the UN Security Council’s Counter-Terrorism Executive Directorate.

During the meeting, the parties discussed possible measures of legal support of international security and countering terrorism.

 

12 May

Vyacheslav Lebedev, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, received a delegation of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Peru, headed by the court’s President, Manuel Jesus Miranda Canales, invited to Russia by the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation.

The meeting of Russian and Peruvian justices was aimed at broader cooperation, exchange of experience and study of judicial practice of the two countries.

 

15 – 22 May

The VIII International Conference “Justice and Law” was held in Havana, Cuba.

The conference was attended by Vyacheslav Lebedev, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Russia, who presented a report titled “Russian Judiciary: Current Challenges and Further Development Plans”.

 

16 May

Deputy Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, Mr. Vladimir Davydov, received a delegation of the Law Society of Hong Kong, headed by its President Stephen Hung, on a visit to Moscow by invitation of the Russian Federal Chamber of Lawyers.

During the meeting, Deputy Chief Justice Davydov informed the guests about the structure, functions and tasks of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation and the manner of appointment of Supreme Court justices.

 

23 May

A delegation of judges of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Croatia, headed by the court’s President, Mr. Branko Hrvatin, made an official visit to Russia.

During the visit, Croatian judges had meetings with Vyacheslav Lebedev, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Russia, Aleksandr Gusev, Director-General of the Judicial Department at the Supreme Court, and Ella Pamfilova, Chairperson of Russia’s Central Election Commission.

In conclusion of the visit, the parties recognised the visit as an important step in the development of ties, aimed at strengthening of mutual understanding and cooperation between the judiciaries of Russia and Croatia.

 

8 – 11 June

The 15th Russian-German Dialog of Judges, annually organised by Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, took place in Cadenabbia, Italy.

The event was attended by Ms. Tatiana Petrova, Deputy Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, who presented a report titled “Effective Judicial Proceedings and Reduction of Terms for Consideration of Cases” and Ms. Tatiana Vavilycheva, Justice of the Russian Supreme Court, whose report was titled “Social Protection of Children’s Rights”.

 

12 – 16 June

A delegation of the Council of State of the Italian Republic, headed by its President, Alessandro Pajno, made an official visit to Russia.

The program of stay included meetings with Chief Justice Lebedev of the Russian Supreme Court, Minister of Justice Aleksandr Konovalov, Prosecutor General Yuri Chaika, and President of Moscow Region Court Vyacheslav Voloshin.

The delegation also visited the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation to meet with Vladimir Pligin, President of the Committee for Constitutional Legislation and Statecraft.

In conclusion, the parties recognised the visit as an important step in creating more favourable conditions for successful development of cooperation in the legal and judicial sphere.

 

26 – 29 June

A delegation of the Supreme Court of Cassation of the Italian Republic, headed by its President, Giovanni Canzio, visited Russia.

The Italian delegation learned about the structure of the Russian judiciary by visiting the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, the Judicial Department at the Supreme Court and the Russian State University of Justice.

During the meetings and talks that took place, both sides repeatedly confirmed their wish to broaden and develop the ties between the top judicial bodies of the two countries.

 

26 June – 2 July

By invitation of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, a delegation of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Korea, headed by its Chief Justice, Mr. Yang Sung-tae, made an official visit to Russia.

During their stay, the delegation members met with the senior judges and officials of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation, the Judicial Department at the Supreme Court and Saint-Petersburg City Court.
